The Passing of Fr. Fred Kochan

We sadly announce the passing of Fr. Fred Kochan on Saturday, October 1st. Fr. Fred was a beloved fixture at St. Pio’s and will be greatly missed. God rest your soul, Fr. Fred.

We implore your kindness, O God, for Fr. Fred Kochan, your servant and Priest, that, as you made him a steward of your mysteries on earth, so you may bring him to be nourished by their truth and reality as unveiled in heaven. Through Christ our Lord. AMEN.

A Note of Thanks from Fr. Joy

I wish to thank everyone who participated in celebrating the 30th Anniversary of my Priestly Ordination on Saturday by coming for the Mass and then to the St. Pio Parish Center to celebrate. You truly made me feel welcomed and loved.

Many thanks go out to all who made this wonderful event possible by organizing and cooking: Marta, Joyce, Pat, Laura, Connie, Maribeth, kitchen staff: Joe, Stephen, Greg and Bill. Those who made desserts: Jane, Dianne, Kathy and Judy. Also, Ginny, John, Fr. Joe and others who worked so hard behind the scenes. Everything was perfect. The food was delicious and all enjoyed. I will never forget the beautiful big cake made on my behalf. It was truly a joyous event.

Thank you also for the wonderful greeting cards, personal good wishes and gifts. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

With prayerful good wishes and personal regards,

Fr. Joy

THE GREAT ADVENTURE: A JOURNEY THROUGH THE BIBLE

These teachings speak to all those who feel torn between the competing demands of this world and their faith.

Challenge: Matching Gifts Needed for Valentine House

Many of you may be familiar with Valentine House – their residents are the recipients of our Giving Tree gifts at Christmas. The Joan Valentine House in Point Pleasant Beach is a 40-bed residential health care facility dedicated to providing mentally ill residents with the safe, healthy, pleasant, caring environment they deserve. Managed by The Ocean Housing Alliance, Inc. a NJ nonprofit corporation comprised of family members and friends of the mentally ill. They are committed to the total care of each resident, which includes full housing provisions, coordination of health care providers, and various additional support services to give residents the opportunity to experience a decent quality of life.  The House is totally self-sustaining and dependent upon donations to operate.

Sacred Heart Church has received a donation of $5,000, our parish is matching that donation from our Charitable Giving Account and we are asking parishioners to join in on the challenge and all together match the donation with another $5,000 for a total of $15,000. We ask your support, no gift is too small, together we can help this happen! Please make your check payable to Sacred Heart Church and write Valentine House in the memo field.

Healing After Abortion

Do you know someone who is carrying the grief of a past abortion? There is always hope. The pain and sorrow of abortion does not need to endure for a lifetime. A “Day of Prayer and Healing” offers the opportunity to experience the love and mercy of God and to respond to His invitation to begin the journey of healing the wound of abortion. For upcoming dates, locations, and confidential registration, or just to talk to a Sister, please call the Sisters of Life at (866)-575-0075 (toll free) or reach us by email at hopeandhealing@sistersoflife.org.

Diocesan Advisory

Media reports have indicated significant spikes in Corona virus cases in 21 states that have re-opened or relaxed restrictions. As we approach the first weekend of public, in-church Masses, I remind the Diocese of our directions, lest there be any confusion:

  1. COVID-19 is still extremely contagious, especially indoors or in closed settings;
  2. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Sunday/Holy Day Masses remains in effect so that all Catholic faithful, in good conscience, are not required to be physically present in church; live-streamed Masses will continue in most parishes;
  3. Anyone who is sick or at risk should not come to church; that is not punitive but, rather, common sense and an act of charity toward your neighbors
  4. All parishes are expected to abide by occupancy and other regulations of the Diocese with care;
  5. Masks must be worn (no exceptions), physical contact of any kind must be avoided, social distancing must be practiced, proper sanitation must be observed at all public, in church Masses;
  6. Before attending public, in church Masses, the Catholic faithful are asked to consider any possible health and safety risks involved.
